Shanghai International Circuit, China circuit details

The Shanghai track was a new track in 2004, built with state of the art facilities for teams and spectators. It is a mixture of fast straights and tight turns that has led to some good racing and overtaking. It reflects F1's move into new markets in the Far East. The track was completely resurfaced for the 2025 season.

Daniel Ricciardo won after a smart call to bring both Red Bull cars in for new tyres under a safety car when it looked like Ferrari had the race under control. Daniel Ricciardo had an engine failure in FP3 and the team had to rebuild the car and only just got him ready to run in qualifying. The team then twice double stopped the cars which gave Daniel the chance to make some great overtaking moves to win the race. Max Verstappen had his chance to win the race but over enthusiasm led to him having a coming together with Sebastian Vettel that dropped both of them down the order. Valtteri Bottas had a another solid race though Lewis Hamilton was again off the pace. However it was an exciting race with the top drivers going wheel to wheel and overtaking each other.

Lewis Hamilton led from the start and was helped by a virtual safety car and actual safety car in the opening couple of laps as the track dried out and drivers changed from intermediate tyres to slicks. Force India continued their good start to the season with two cars in the top 10, though McLaren had a poor race with both cars outside the top 10.

2013

Race winner: Fernando Alonso Ferrari
